Have
you ever wanted to see a real Alaskan glacier up close? Try a trip to Seward and
visit Exit Glacier. This is one of the few glaciers you can actually touch with
your bare hands. Although Seward in itself is a well publicized tourist destination
there are many side trips in the area that just do not get noticed.
Other glaciers that you can drive to are Worthington Glacier located along
the Richardson Highway headed towards Valdez and on the Glenn Parks Highway, just
beyond the town of Palmer, you will find the magnificent Matanuska Glacier plainly
visible from the highway. There are side roads leading down to the river where
you can cross to get a closer view of this awe inspiring spectacle left over from
the ice age.
Visit
the historic fishing village of Seldovia Alaska. Once you have arrived in Homer,
there is more to see just across the bay in the middle of the Kachemak Bay Estuary.
The perfect place to start this journey is from the village of Seldovia. Here
you will find a real visitors dream in one of those overlooked destinations so
worthy of exploring. Everything that Alaska was seems preserved in this genuine
Alaskan fishing village of approximately 300 year round residents. Access is by
the Alaska Marine Highway System (Alaska Ferry), charter boat out of Homer, or
by air. Camping and lodging is available along with many visitor services.
Get
away from it all on the Denali Highway. Try your hand at fishing one of the many
wild and scenic lakes, streams or rivers along this 135 mile trek. There are some
great campgrounds and a couple lodges along the road but what you will remember
the most is the incredible wilderness and lot's of natures solitude. This is a
great place to photograph Alaska wildlife like the grizzly bear and moose. No
trip to alaska should be complete without seeing the unspoiled back country like
found is destinations like the Denali Highway.
Note about the Denali Highway,
over ¾ of this road is still unpaved gravel, care and caution need be excercised along
with added time to complete this journey. Don't let this deter you as it's worth
every minute of the trip. Beauty Vans are far more adept at traversing this road
then the larger motorhomes. Like we say, easy to drive, easy on the wallet.
Bring
your camera and set out on an Alaska wildlife photography adventure. Photos like
this Alaska Yukon Moose are beconing the willing photographer to snap their photo
and capture a piece of the wilder side of the state.
Did you know Beauty Vans of Alaska will pick you up on arrival and deliver you on departure, anywhere in the Anchorage
Metropolitan area? |
